this is a great video about how acoustic resonance can create shapes out of materials. The study of these phenomenon is called Cymatics…the power of music is real! here they just tip rice onto a metal plate that is clamped to a speaker, so it vibrates with a sinewave of certain frequency. the rice allows us to see how the sound ripples through the materials…truly amazing shapes. you can see aboriginal art, mystical religious mandalas, and other classic patterns that are all around us…

as I write, ableton are putting the finishing touches to the launch of Live 6. it includes a host of really neat new features such as working with movies, editable freeze tracks, multi-layer instruments and loads of general improvements. check out their demo video here…we like.
